Your reservation is confirmed when you make the $250 deposit payment. You can do so right after submitting your request, or later by following the link in the quote email (this link is only valid 24 hours). If you wish to confirm later, you can visit this page, enter your reservation ID and email, and click on the “Pay now” tab at the top; or you can give us a call at 1-800-482-2070 and make the payment with your credit card.
We have a minimum rental time of 3 days, as a lot of work goes into getting your campervan clean and ready for your adventure. Plus, 2 days is not nearly enough to explore what Maui has to offer!
No. However, since the processing costs are lower with cash transactions, we do offer complimentary rentals of our gear for those who choose to pay in cash upon pickup.
The reservation deposit can be made via our PayPal online, or using your credit card over the phone. Payments can be made in U.S. Dollars by cash, Cashier’s Check, Travelers Check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover Card. Personal checks or Diners Card are not accepted. Payment of all rental charges are due upon pick up of the vehicle. There will be no refunds for late pick-up or early returns. Customers who make their payments in full prior to arrival will get priority check-in service and receive an extra gift of our appreciation.
Your Camping Trip
Visit our Maui Camping page for detailed information on each of Maui campgrounds.
Unfortunately, it is illegal to camp anywhere on Maui that is not a designated campground or private property (with landowner’s permission). But there are plenty of gorgeous, safe, and conveniently located campgrounds around Maui!
Some campgrounds require no reservations. For those that do, same-day reservations are usually acceptable. Just note that Keanae and Waianapanapa sometimes sell out a day or two in advance, and you have to arrange the permit before arrival as you won’t have cell reception in these areas. More information on our Maui Camping page.
All our campervans are equipped with functioning cigarette lighter plugs, so you can bring your USB adapter. Most of our campervans are also equipped with recent audio systems with a USB outlet.
We have access to discounted activities through our corporate partner Hula Adventures—without having to attend a lengthy 2 to 4-hour timeshare presentation! You can give us a call ahead of your arrival at 1-800-482-2070 to find out more and make bookings. We can also arrange activities when you come to pick up your vehicle—however, the prices are the lowest if you book in advance. Ask about our currently featured adventure packages.
Maui is one of these places on earth where it’s never too hot and never too cold! It does get a little chilly at nights, especially in the winter, and you wil most likely sweat in the hot midday sun, but nothing to be very concerned about. We provide you with blankets, and while our campervans don’t have A/C, there is plenty of ventilation. The vans come with a removable mosquito net, so you can keep the hatch open at night for a nice cross breeze.
Your Arrival and Departure
Yes we do. We offer airport transfers from one of our authorized transportation partners. The cost is $39 per transfer, for up to 2 people ($19 for each additional person), each way. Transportation fees will be billed at time of vehicle pickup. To arrange a transfer, fill out the information on this form at least 24 hours prior to arrival.
Yes. We offer after-hours vehicle pick-up upon request between 7:00PM and 7:00AM, for a $50 service fee. For after-hours pick-ups, we require you provide us with your arrival flight information.
There is no fee to return the van outside of our office hours. If we’re not at the lot when you return the van, you may park in the street, leave the keys in our mailbox, and fill in the online check-out form at your convenience. Make sure you park in a legal spot (ie, not where it says “No Parking”, nor within 15 feet/5 meters of the fire hydrant), as the vehicle remains your responsibility until our next opening time.
4. We had a change of plans, and will return the campervan earlier than planned. Can we get a refund?
Payment of the full rental period is due upon pick-up of the vehicle, and there is no refund for early returns. If you want to change your dates to shorten your stay, you must do so 48 hours before pick-up time. Changes made within 48 hours of pick-up incur a $50 administrative fee.
5. We fell in love with Maui and would like to keep the campervan for a few more hours, another night, or more. Can we do that?
We can’t blame you for falling in love with Maui! Give us a call as soon as you know you’d like to extend your stay, and if your vehicle is available, we will gladly extend the rental for you. Note that our rentals run by 24-hour period, and there is a $12/hour charge for additional hours (after the one-hour grace period). Rental extensions are not guaranteed and depend on vehicle availability at the time of request.
The Westies come with two full-size bunk beds, a pop-up tent, a kitchenette with a sink and two burners, a 10-gallon tank of water, plenty of storage space, a cooler, bedding, cooking utensils and silverware, a coffee press, and much more. You can find the list of all that is included in the campervan here.
We do! Please, do let us know if you want an automatic transmission. Don’t be ashamed to tell us that you’re not able or not comfortable driving a manual—trust us, it’s much less problematic than having to pay for a broken clutch or transmission…
Yes! We have chairs, tables, tents, child seat, boogie boards, and more. Let us know what you will need when you make your reservation request, and we will make sure we have it available for you upon check-in. You may also decide what additional gear you’d like when you arrive, depending on availability.
The Westys can comfortably sleep four people: two on the bottom bunk, and two on the top bunk, under the pop-up tent. If you’re travelling with a group of four but would like a little more privacy and space, you can also rent a two-person tent from us.
Smoking of anything is not allowed inside the vehicles. Evidence of smoking in the campervans will result in a $250 cleaning fee.
Absolutely! Actually, this is the most popular trip people take in our campers. There are three campsites on the way, so you can take your sweet time. Note that the camper-vans—just like all other rental vehicles on island—are not covered by insurance or roadside assistance on the 7 mile of unpaved section of the road between Kipahulu and Kaupo. This is due to the road’s bad conditions, and it being a very narrow one-lane road in some areas. Please use wisdom when traveling this road.
Yes! This is a less travelled, underrated road trip, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and Moloka’i Island. You may drive all the way up the Olivine Pools (mile marker 16), then will have to turn around, however the drive back is even more beautiful. Further on, the road becomes a very narrow one-lane road, with sheer cliffs on one side and no guard rail, making it very treacherous, so our vans are not allowed in this area—just like any other rental vehicle on island. From the other side, you can drive up to Mendes Ranch and Waihe’e Ridge Trail.
Unfortunately, no. Our Westfalia camper-vans are excellent beach cruisers, but do not fare well at high elevations, and may fail you. Practically speaking, this means you can visit the Ali’i Lavender Farm, but not go any higher on Waipoli Road; and you cannot take any portion of Crater Road. However, we offer other options for you to visit the summit—ask us about our Haleakala Element Tour and other discount activities!
Our Rental Agreement
A $50 administrative charge applies to all cancellations over 15 days from the date of arrival. For cancellations made less than 15 days prior to the scheduled date of pick-up, or no shows, the $250 reservation deposit shall be forfeited. If you need to cancel within 15 days, you must call us to discuss 1-800-482-2070.
Our insurance offers liability, comprehensive and collision coverage, with a $1,000 deductible per occurrence.
Your insurance must provide full coverage (liability, collision, comprehensive), as well as RV rental. EACH driver must provide proof of their own insurance (copy of your policy) upon vehicle pick-up. This option is only available to US and Canadian citizens.
Unfortunately, no. Insurance provided by credit card companies to their account holders is not sufficient coverage.
No. However, all drivers must be present at the time of pick-up and present a copy of their driving license. If you choose to not purchase Maui Camper Rental insurance, each driver must provide proof of their insurance policy.
For all practical purposes, the vehicle is your property during the rental, and you should treat it with as much care and caution as if it were your own vehicle. Per our rental agreement—which is standard across car rental companies—you are responsible for all damage to, or loss or theft of, the Vehicle, including damage caused by weather, road conditions, and acts of nature, whether or not you are at fault. You are responsible for the cost of repair, or the actual cash retail value of the Vehicle on the date of the loss if the Vehicle is not repairable or if we elect not to repair the Vehicle, Loss of Use, and our administrative expenses incurred in processing the claim. With our insurance, you are only liable for the first $1000 of damages.
All drivers must be at least 21 years of age.
Yes, but with a $1000 cash deposit, refundable upon check-out. Otherwise, any major credit card from any authorized user will suffice.
Your Safety on the Road
Pull over in a safe spot, and give us a call as soon as possible. We have 24/7 roadside assistance and will troubleshoot, repair, or replace your van as soon as possible. Please note that depending on where you are located, it might take us a few hours to reach you. Decline any offer from any friendly officer or by-stander to tow your vehicle, as towing must be arranged by us to be covered by the insurance. Note that if you find yourself in one of the travel restricted areas, you are liable for all damages to vehicle, tires, towing charges and other expenses resulting from a breakdown associated with operating in unauthorized areas.
Each campervan is equipped with a jack under the back seat, and a spare tire. If you can’t change the tire yourself, ask for help around you if available and/or give us a call. Note that you are liable for all damages to vehicle, tires, towing charges and other expenses as a result of a breakdown associated with operating in unauthorized areas, unpaved or dirt roads.
No! If you see a light indicating low oil level, or high temperature, pull over in a safe spot and give us a call as soon as possible. You are responsible to check and maintain all fluid levels during the rental, as per the rental agreement. We provide spare oil and coolant fluid under the back seat. If you’re driving up a slope, and the van is overheating, pull over and give it time to cool down. If it’s overheating for no apparent reason, pull over and give us a call as soon as possible for further assistance.
No worries! There are jumper cables under the back seat, and a screwdriver in the glove box to open the battery compartment, located behind the passenger seat. People are very friendly on Maui, and you will have no trouble finding someone who will help jump-start your van. If you can’t find anyone, give us a call. A service fee may apply to this type of calls.
